Seeing a doctor in senegal

When can you see a doctor in Senegal?

Generally, you need an appointment to see a doctor:
Monday to Friday from 9.30 to 12.30 and 16.00 to 18.00
Clinics are open from 8.00 to 18.00 and hospitals 24/7.

How much does it cost?

Consultation with a GP in the private sector: 10 000 CFA francs (about €15)
Consultation with a specialist in the private sector: 20 000 CFA francs (about €30)

How good is the quality of care?

In general, the quality of care is good, particularly in Dakar where GPs, specialists and dentists are readily available. The private hospitals and clinics are in very good condition and are well equipped.
Inland cities in Senegal also have good infrastructure. However, Senegal is sorely lacking health centres (hospitals, clinics etc.) and both generalist and specialist doctors. State healthcare is inadequate.

What languages do doctors speak?

You will easily find doctors who speak French in Senegal; a few doctors speak English but not many and they are usually based in the major towns and cities.
